Ford Challenges School Boards to Think Out of the Box

The premier wants boards to hold brief outdoor, end of year celebrations for students

The DSBN and Niagara Catholic are taking a wait and see approach before deciding whether to hold outdoor end of year celebrations for students.

Both boards have posted notices on their Facebook pages saying they are waiting for more direction from the province before making a final decision.

On Friday, the Premier sent out an email blasting some school boards for saying no to the proposal.

In a written statement, Doug Ford says " we are working on the necessary regulatory changes to allow school boards to invite students back for a brief, outdoor, end of year celebration to reward them for their hard work during an unprecedented school year."

He adds "we are extremely disappointed to hear some school boards are passing on the opportunity for their students to celebrate safely and in person with their teachers and friends."

Ford noting "With weeks left to plan, there is no reason that in a year like no other, school boards can't think outside the box and do all they can to safely give Ontario students the send off they rightfully deserve."
