Flood Watch in Effect for Niagara

Flood watch issued as weather office calls for 15 to 25 mm of rain

The Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority has issued a flood watch for the area.

Niagara is currently under a rainfall warning, with Environment Canada calling for 15 to 25 mm of rain today through tomorrow night.

The NPCA says rain falling over the saturated ground could cause a significant amount of runoff into ditches, storm sewer systems and watercourses.

At the moment, while water levels are elevated, they are below critical flood levels.

Residents are reminded to stay away from creeks and rivers due to slippery slopes, unstable ice and higher water levels.

The NPCA notes the near shore pack-ice on Lake Erie is particularly unstable and dangerous.
