Two year anniversary of first case of COVID-19 in Niagara

The flags at Niagara College are flying today at half mast

In a release, College officials says they will remain that way through the weekend to honour the memory of those who have lost their lives to COVID-19 on the two-year anniversary of the first COVID-19 case in the Niagara region.

The College first lowered its flags last year to mark the National Day of Observance for COVID-19, which was declared on March 11, 2021 by the federal government.

Officials say they continue to recognize the challenges that have been felt by many individuals as a result of the pandemic as well as the continued efforts of our local health-care teams and essential workers, and the resilience of our college and local communities.

Since the beginning of the pandemic in 2020, more than 500 Niagara residents have lost their lives to COVID-19.
