Feds and Province Butt Heads Over Border Travel Restriction Request

Ottawa says its waiting for more specifics from Ford government

Federal officials calling out Premier Doug Ford, saying they have yet to receive a formal request to implement more restrictions on travellers crossing the border into Canada.

In a letter obtained by CP24, Intergovernmental Affairs Minister Dominic Leblanc responds to two letters sent to Ottawa by the province about the need for more enhanced measures at our border crossings.

Ford has taken out attack ads, alleging the spread of COVID variants are connected to lax rules at the border for non essential travelers.

LeBlanc's letter once again asks Ford for specific requests on what additional travel measures he would like to see implemented.

The province had asked that the hotel quarantine requirement for people travelling by air become mandatory for travellers who cross the border in Niagara, Windsor, Sarnia and Brockville be required to quarantine at a hotel
