Federal Government to Invest $2.2 Million for High Speed Internet in Southwestern Ontario

Some rural Niagara residents will soon have access to high-speed internet, thanks to the federal government.

Maryam Monsef, Minister for Women and Gender Equality and Rural and Economic Development, announced nearly $2.2 million in funding for Niagara Regional Broadband Network and Mornington Communications Co-operative Limited.

The investment will fund projects to bring high-speed internet access to rural southwestern Ontario residents.

Three projects will connect underserved households in Niagara Falls, Niagara-on-the-Lake and St. Catharines to high-speed internet.

Monsef says that high-speed internet is essential for rural Ontario residents.

"Today’s investment will bring reliable, high-speed Internet access to 310 households in the Niagara Region, helping create jobs, improving access to health care and online learning services, and keeping people connected to their loved ones."
