Federal Government Invests in 2022 Canada Summer Games in Niagara

Funds will cover the impacts of COVID-19.

The federal government is investing in the 2022 Canada Summer Games, which will be held in Niagara next summer.

Minister of Canadian Heritage Stephen Guilbeault was in Niagara to make the announcement today.

Up to $1.1 million will go to the 2022 Canada Summer Games Host Society in Niagara.

The funds will help cover the additional costs brought forth by the pandemic, including the postponement of the Games.

The Games were supposed to be held this summer, but are now slated to take place August 6th to 21st.

The Canada Games play a big role in preparing the next generation of Canadian athletes for success on the international stage.

Guilbeault says the money will go a long way to supporting the Games.

"Our government is proud to strengthen its support for our country’s largest domestic multisport event, the Canada Games. These Games are an amazing opportunity for athletes to showcase their skills and make Canada proud. We can’t wait to celebrate with all of you and experience this event with the athletes, coaches, volunteers and people of the Niagara Region."
