Escaped Port Colborne Wolf Shot Dead

A wolf that escaped an enclosure in Port Colborne has been killed.

A tragic end to the search for a white wolf that escaped in Port Colborne.

Niagara Regional Police say the animal was shot and killed last night near a Port Colborne farm.

As officers responded to the area, a property owner expressed concerns for the safety of their farm animals.

Officers tried to contain and capture the wolf, but were unsuccessful.

To protect the farm animals, an officer fired a bullet and killed the wolf.

The Niagara SPCA was contacted, but hadn't arrived at the scene yet.

The investigation into the animal's housing remains active, and will continue with the assistance of the City of Port Colborne, the Niagara SPCA and the Ministry of Natural Resources.

The remains of the wolf are with the Niagara SPCA.

On Tuesday morning, the animal escaped an enclosure near Main Street West and Cement Road.
