Environment Canada Warns of Exceptionally Hot and Humid Conditions Today

One day event won't warrant heat warning

A special weather statement continues for the Niagara Region today as exceptionally hot and humid conditions are forecast.

Environment Canada says temperatures are expected to reach 31 to 33 C with humidex values around 42 or 43 C.

A slight drop in temperatures tonight will provide minimal relief from the heat but a cold front is expected to move in Thursday.

The weather agency recommends local residents stay hydrated and in a cool place, check on older friends and relatives and neighbours and never leave people or pets in cars during weather events like this.

As the forecast is only calling for this today, a heat warning will not be required.

Environment Canada says a heat warning requires two or more consecutive days of hot and humid conditions.

If you plan to hit one of Niagara's beaches to cool off be aware, 11 have been posted as unsafe to swim.
