Education Minister Says Negotiations Will Not Continue Unless CUPE Ends Plans to Strike

Stephen Lecce says he won't negotiate CUPE's counter-offer unless they cancel plans to strike on Friday.

Ontario's Education Minister is urging the Canadian Union of Public Employees to cancel strike plans set to take place on Friday.

Stephen Lecce says he won't consider the union's counter offer for education workers, unless the strike is called off.

Despite looming legislation to ban the strike, workers including early childhood educators, custodians and administrative staff plan to walk off the job on Friday.

The province is looking to pass a bill imthat would impose a contract on workers and make it illegal for them to strike.

CUPE responded with a counter-offer late last night, but Lecce is telling them to "take the strike off the table and let's talk."

The union has not publicly released any details of its proposed contract.
