Dr. Hirji Dropping Additional COVID-19 Regulations Effective Tomorrow

Niagara's top doctor says there won't be additional requirements beyond provincial regulations for food, retail, indoor sports and recreational fitness facilities, effective tomorrow.

With the province dropping many COVID-19 restrictions and regulations tomorrow, Niagara's Acting Medical Officer of Health says Niagara will drop additional regulations tomorrow.

Dr. Mustafa Hirji is getting rid of section 22 orders and the letter of instructions issued for businesses like restaurants, retail stores and indoor sports and recreational fitness facilities.

He says there is no need for additional requirements beyond the provincial regulations.

"They are no longer likely to have significant effect with the removal of complementary provincial measures."

Hirji is urging the public to remain cautious against the virus, saying we are not out of the woods just yet.

"As we enter a new phase of the pandemic on March 1 with far fewer measures in place by government to protect us and those we love, the responsibility for staying safe is shifting to each of us and our personal actions," said Hirji, . "Masking and vaccination, including booster doses, are now more critical than ever to prevent COVID-19. If you have not yet gotten all your COVID-19 vaccinations, I encourage you to do so as soon as possible."
