BIA says GoFundMe started after barbershop shot at

The St. Catharines BIA is impressed with how the community and businesses are rallying together after an overnight shooting last week.

On October 26th, the storefront at Hourglass Barbershop on James Street was shot at, causing damage to the exterior and interior of the business.

BIA Executive Director Rachel Braithwaite feels there is nothing to be worried about.

She's been in regular contact with city officials and police.   "An officer was actually in our office this morning chatting with me about it, so obviously it's under investigation.  There's not many answers they can give us at this time.  But they are working hard to get those answers."

Braithwaite also says a lot has been done to increase safety in the area.

"Police presence has definitely been increased. We do have a core team of officers that are dedicated to the downtown. Just recently, that was increased from two to eight," she says.

She also points to this weekend's Halloween festivities in the downtown core which drew many people supporting local businesses, saying it shows that the local community is not afraid of another such incident happening in broad daylight.

A GoFundMe page was started for the barbershop owner, which you can access here.
