Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland announces end to current pandemic aids.

Several pandemic-related aids are coming to an end in Canada.

Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland told reporters today that on Saturday, the Canada Recovery Benefit will end.

It'll be replaced with the new Canada Worker Lockdown Benefit (CWLB), which takes effect on Sunday and runs until May 7th

The CWLB will provide $300 a week to workers who are subject to a lockdown.

In addition, the CEWS, the CERS and Lockdown Support will end on Saturday.

The government says to date, over $95 billion has been paid to help employers re-hire workers and avoid layoffs, and the rent subsidy and Lockdown Support have helped over 210,000 organizations pay for expenses like rent and mortgages.

Freeland also notes the new Tourism and Hospitality Recovery Program, the Lockdown Support Program and Hardest Hit Business Recovery Program will run from October 24th until May 7th.

The Tourism and Hospitality Recovery Program will provide hotels, tour operators, restuarants and travel agencies with wage and rent subsidy rates up to 75 percent.

The Hardest-Hit Business Recovery Program will provide wage and rent subsidies up to 50 percent for other businesses that have also faced a large decline in revenues.

Meanwhile, the Lockdown Support Program has been created in the event of future lockdowns in parts of Canada.

The proposed subsidy rates will be available through March 13th, and will descrease in half until the May 7th expiry date.
