COVID-19 Outbreak Declared in ICU of St. Catharines Hospital

Another COVID-19 outbreak has been declared at the St. Catharines hospital.

Niagara Health says a healthcare worker has tested positive for the virus on the Intensive Care Unit and the transmission occurred in the hospital.

Executive Vice President Derek McNally says Niagara Health is working at its fullest capacity to prevent further spread.

Officials have been contact tracing the patients and staff members who may have come into contact with the infected worker.

Some of the other measures in place include enhanced cleaning of the unit as well as dedicated staffing and equipment.

Niagara Health is working closely with Niagara Region Public Health.

The ICU will continue to admit patients at this time and five patients are currently being treated in the unit.
