UPDATE: COVID-19 Outbreak Declared at Niagara Falls Hospital

A COVID-19 outbreak has been declared at Greater Niagara General Hospital in Niagara Falls.

Sixteen people have now tested positive - 15 patients and 1 healthcare worker. 

Niagara Public Health says that two of the cases were contracted in the community, and others were healthcare associated. 

Contact tracing is underway, and the staff is member is self-isolating at home. 

Outbreak safety measures are in place, including enhanced cleaning and closure of new admissions or transfers to the unit, except when necessary. 

Visitors are also not permitted in Unit C. 

 

Three cases have been reported on inpatient Unit C; two of them are patients and the third is a healthcare worker.

Contact tracing is underway and Niagara Health has closed the unit to visitors, new admissions and transfers with few exceptions.

The unit will also undergo enhanced cleaning and disinfection protocols.

Niagara Health continues to monitor the situation and it's working closely with Niagara Region Public Health.
