COVID-19 Outbreak Declared at Greater Niagara General Hospital

Niagara Health has declared a COVID-19 outbreak at Greater Niagara General Hospital in Niagara Falls.

In an official statement, Niagara Health says the outbreak on the inpatient Trillium Unit is "a result of a healthcare-associated case involving a healthcare worker on the unit."

Officials have connected this worker to another healthcare worker who had previously tested positive for the virus.

Six patients on the unit have also tested positive for COVID-19 and further testing of patients and staff is ongoing.

Executive Vice President Derek McNally says this is a very unfortunate situation, adding Niagara Health has taken immediate action to protect the health and wellbeing of its patients, staff and physicians.

He says they're offering additional support and education in order to prevent the spread of the virus.
