COVID-19 Cases Could Hit 3000 a Day by Mid-January

Ontario's Science Advisory table forecasting high rates of infection even without Omricon variant.

Ontario could see up to 3,000 new cases of COVID-19 a day by mid-January even without the new Omricon variant.

That was one of the projections from Ontario's Science Advisory Table today.

In its latest report, the advisory table says even without Omicron, ICU occupancy will likely grow to 250-400 beds in January, putting hospitals under strain again.

The group is calling for more public health measures and increased vaccinations, especially in the 5-to-11 year old age group, to help reduce transmission rates.

They also said spread of the Omricon variant will likely drive COVID-19 cases above their current projections.
