Council Seeks 90 Day Extension on Quarry

Niagara Falls city council agrees April 3rd not enough time for resident input

Niagara Falls city council has voted unanimously for people to have a say concerning a proposed quarry in the Beechwood and Thorold Townline Road area.

It heard Tuesday night written submissions must be submitted by April 3rd for the work by Walker Aggregates.

However, life-long resident David Rupay said people need more time.  "Residents have not had an opportunity to review the JART (Joint Advisory Review Team) and peer review reports.  The JART report has not been finalized, and the peer review findings have not been issued to the public yet."

He asked council support a motion for a 90 day extension, which would be forwarded to Regional council.

Councillor Pietrangelo was good with that idea.  "The location that the proposed quarry is, is in the middle of 2 subdivisions.... one of them being in Niagara Falls, and the other one being in Thorold.  So, perhaps the Regional council as well can support a resolution."

Council unanimously approved that idea.
