Cop Shot During Altercation with Fellow Officer Goes on Trial Today

Constable Nathan Parker is charged with assault with a weapon

Parker's trial begins this morning in a Hamilton court.

The charge stems from an altercation between himself and a fellow officer on November 29th, 2018.

The 55 year old  Parker was part of a team investigating a crash in Pelham when he got into a physical altercation with Detective Sgt. Shane Donovan, who was with the NRP’s collision reconstruction unit.

In a suit filed against the NRP and Parker, Donovan alleges Parker left his post rerouting traffic without permission and when he confronted Parker upon his return an argument broke out.

The altercation led to Donovan shooting Parker multiple times, in what Donovan has said was an act of self defense.

Donovan was originally charged with attempted murder but the Crown dropped the charges saying there was no reasonable prospect of conviction.

Parker was charged with assault with a weapon for his role in the incident.
