The City of St. Catharines is about to begin work on the Happy Rolph's Animal playground and pavilion.

The site will be closed effective March 22nd as upgrades are made to the attraction.

Council approved $330,000 for improvements to the site in the 2020 budget.

The Rotary Club of St. Catharines donated $95,000 for the project, which was matched by the City.

The space, which will incorporate a farm theme, will be renamed the Rotary Club of St. Catharines Centennial Playground.

Features will include rubberized play surfaces as well as a fully accessible aero-glider swing.

In addition, a new accessible network of paths will be provided in order to ensure access to animal pens, washrooms and the playground.

New seating will also be installed throughout the park.

Construction is expected to finish by late spring.
