Charges Laid Following Early Morning Car Chase in St. Catharines

A 45-year-old man is facing a list of charges after an early morning car chase that started in St. Catharines.

The NRP was investigating a threats call in the Shelbourne Street and Dieppe Road area, shortly before 2:00 a.m. this morning. 

Officers spotted their suspect driving a white Lexus, with a woman in the passenger seat.

They tried to pull him over, but he drove away.

He hopped on the Toronto-bound QEW and sped away.

Police stopped chasing him after about 1 kilometre, out of concern for public safety.

The car eventually crashed into the center median close to Martindale Road.

Police say the man tried to run away, but they were able to arrest him. 

He allegedly kicked one of the officers and spat on a paramedic while at the scene of the crash.

The man and and the woman were both taken to hospital, but have since been released.

The man has been charged with the following offences;

- Uttering Threats
- Flight from Police Officer
- Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
- Impaired Operation of a Conveyance (Alcohol and Drug)
- Assault a Peace Officer
- Assault
- Failure of Refusal to comply with demand
- Fail to Comply with a probation order
