Canadians Can Donate to Aeroplan Fund to Bring Ukrainians to Canada

Canadians can donate cash or Aeroplan points to help Ukrainians relocating here.

Canadians can help Ukrainians coming here to flee the war by donating cash or Aeroplan points.

Immigration Minister Sean Fraser says a goal of covering flights for at least 10,000 Ukrainians and their families approved for travel here has been set.

This is in addition to targeted chartered flights to bring Ukrainians to Canada announced earlier this year by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

More than 54,000 Ukrainians have been approved to come to Canada for up to three years.

The program will be offered by U.S. based charity Miles4Migrants, and will help Ukrainians book commercial flights to Canada using donated points or funds on a first-come, first-served basis.

The organization says it expects people to be able to board flights as soon as next month.

Meanwhile, another U.S.-based charity, the Shapiro Foundation that provides support to refugees, says it would match donations from Canadians up to the equivalent of 50 million Aeroplan points, or about $1 million.
