Canadian Food Suppliers Warn More Price Bumps Coming to Grocery Stores

Prices of several dairy products expected to jump in the fall.

You may be paying even more for some grocery items this fall.

Several Canadian food suppliers have issued notices to grocery retailers informing them of upcoming price increases.

In some cases, the higher prices are due to the Canadian Dairy Commission, which has approved of a price jump of two cents per litre for farm gate milk prices, effective September 1st.

However, many dairy-processing companies are tacking on their own increases as well.

Lactalis Canada, Saputo Dairy Products Canada and Arla Foods Canada all say their prices will increase in September due to rising costs.

Last month, Statistics Canada noted the price of food purchased at stores increased by 9.7 percent in May compared with a year ago.
