Canada Bans Flights From India and Pakistan

Starting tonight, passenger flights cannot land in Canada from Pakistan and India for 30 days.

CANADA - Passenger flights from India and Pakistan into Canada are going to be banned for 30 days starting tonight.

The Federal Government is implementing the measure immediately. The concern is over the rising cases of COVID-19 in those countries and a new variant that originated in India that is described as a double mutant.

The measures announced today also will ensure that passengers who depart to India or Pakistan to Canada via indirect route will need a negative COVID test from last point of departure.

Canada already has strict protocol for international travel. Those who arrive in this country are required to quarantine for 14 days. When they first arrive they must stay at a Government approved hotel at their own cost for 3 days until they get a negative COVID-19 test result.

The new restrictions come today after MP's in the House of Commons unanimously agreed that Canada should suspend international flights from countries where COVID-19 outbreaks are raging.

The Government did not announce a ban on flights from Brazil.
