New initiative launched to encourage drivers to slow down.

The NRP, as well as six Niagara municipalities, has paired up with CAA Niagara to keep roads safe from speeders and distracted drivers.

The participating municipalities include Niagara Falls, Wainfleet, St. Catharines, Lincoln, Thorold and Port Colborne.

Niagara residents can  receive free 'Slow Down Please' lawn signs.

There's a limit of one sign per household, and they're being distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.

CAA Niagara President Peter Van Hezewyk says when the signs are placed in a visible area, like a front lawn, they serve as a safety reminder for drivers.

"These signs serve as a reminder for motorists to drive safely and obey the posted speed limits. As children return to school this September after a long time away, it’s even more important that drivers are cautious while out on the roads.”

The signs can be picked up at any CAA Niagara location or the town/city halls in Lincoln, Wainfleet, Thorold, Port Colborne and St. Catharines.
