NFL Commissioner says resuming the game would mean postponing the playoff season by one week

The NFL has decided not to resume Monday's game between the Buffalo Bills and the Cincinnati Bengals.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell says resuming the game would require the start of the playoffs to be delayed by a week.

He also notes the games will not have an impact on which clubs qualify for the post seasons.

A vote will be held today to to decide on contingency plans for the AFC playoffs.

A few scenarios have been proposed in the event that the participating teams played an unequal number of games and both could have been the number one seed with a full 17 game season.

Scenario 1

Buffalo and Kansas City both win or both tie - a Buffalo vs Kansas City championship game would be at a neutral site.

Scenario 2

Buffalo and Kansas City both lose and Baltimore wins or ties - a Buffalo vs Kansas City championship game would be at a neutral site.

Scenario 3

Buffalo and Kansas City both lose and Cincinnati wins - a Buffalo or Cincinnati vs Kansas City championship game would be at a neutral site.

Monday night's game was stopped after Bills player Damar Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest on the field.

This morning, the team confirmed his breathing tube was removed last night, and he continues to make progress.
