Bernardo Denied Parole

Killer Paul Bernardo will not be released on parole.

After about an hour of deliberations, the Parole Board of Canada rejected his application for release.

Bernardo spoke at today's hearing, saying he is a changed man and no longer a threat to society.

The 56 year old also claimed he has been treated unfairly in prison by spending 10,000 in solitary confinement, and he says he hasn't been able to speak to anyone since the start of the pandemic.

The parents of two of his victims, Leslie Mahaffy and Kristen French, also spoke at the hearing today, saying Bernardo should never be freed from prison, and Bernardo's right to a hearing every two years needs to change to at least every five years.

Bernardo is serving a life sentence for kidnapping, torturing and killing French and Mahaffy.
