Baldinelli Urges Feds to Help Local Municipalities Facing Rising Number of Refugees

MP Tony Baldinelli says the country's economy relies on immigration and helping asylum seekers

A local Conservative MP says the federal government must ensure municipalities can handle the rise of refugees in the Niagara region.

Niagara Falls' Tony Baldinelli points out local agencies tell him the 1,500 people who've arrived since the summer have strained resources.

"The federal government has said there's $534-million that was committed in last year's budget. And it's my hope that not only the social service organizations, but the municipalities will follow up with the federal government to access those additional dollars."

The MP says many social agencies are feeling the strain of trying to help refugees as inflation continues.
