Baldinelli Approves of New Federal Conservative Party Leader

The Conservative MP for Niagara Falls is happy with the results of the recent leadership race.

Tony Baldinelli says Erin O'Toole will do great things for the party.

"I'm quite thrilled with the selection of Erin and I look forward to working with him in Ottawa and returning Conservative administration to power."

It was a very memorable leadership race.

Baldinelli says O'Toole and Peter MacKay were always the front runners but MacKay had a tough time after he failed to receive at least 40 percent of the votes on the first ballot.

He adds O'Toole had a lot of support in places like Quebec and he was able to build on that to become leader.

Baldinelli says a lot of party members decided vote in the end.

"We had as a party almost 270,000 members register to vote and of that we had over 174,000 come and vote. So about that's about 64 percent of our entire membership and the largest we've ever received!"

He says the party has been rejuvenated and it will hold the Liberal government to account.
