Niagara Falls man charged after historic statue stolen.

Police have made an arrest after a statue was taken from the Drummond Hill Cemetery on Lundy's Lane.

On September 29th, the bronze statue of Lieutenant General Gordon Drummond was stolen, and vandalism was found near the grounds.

Detectives say while 43 year old Shawn Matthew Mayhew of Niagara Falls was arrested yesterday, the statue has not been found yet.

He's been charged with Theft Over $5,000, and failing to comply with undertaking and probation.

Officers believe there is at least one more suspect.

Investigators say a common tactic for metal thieves is to cut the stolen property into smaller pieces in order to transport and sell it easier, and residents and scrap metal recyclers are asked to remain on the lookout for the statue.

The monument is about 330 pounds and is valued at about $10,000.

Anyone with information can call the NRP at 905-688-4111, extension 1009584.
