Meantime, while she may not have won the title yesterday, Canada's Leylah Fernandez won the hearts of the crowd at Flushing Meadowns

After falling to Britain's Emma Raducanu, Fernandez told the crowd, " Thank you for having my back, thank you for cheering me on. I hope I can be as strong and resilient as New York has been the last 20 years", in an acknowledgment of the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks.
