New 1,200-seat arena to be named Algoma Central Arena.

Algoma Central Corporation has been announced as the newest naming sponsor for one of the two ice pads inside the Walker Sports and Abilities Centre at the new Canada Games Park.

The Niagara Region says the new arena, which seats 1,200 people, will be known as the Algoma Central Arena.

The arena will be home of the Brock Badger men's and women's intercollegiate hockey programs and games during the hockey season.

It will also host sledge hockey games and tournaments, and will be used by box lacrosse leagues during hockey's off season.

As well, the ice pad has been constructed below the surrounding floor level, allowing spectators in wheelchairs to watch games without having their view obstructed.

Canada Games Park, which is located in Thorold at the corner of Merritville Highway and Sir Isaac Brock Way,  will be home to the Niagara 2022 Canada Summer Games August 6th to the 21st.

After the Games are complete, Canada Games Park will be a legacy for the community, providing opportunities for accessible recreation, cultural events and activities for years to come.
