A Stormy Start to the Weekend in Niagara

A special weather statement remains in effect for Niagara.

Environment Canada Meterologist Gerald Cheng says we're in for heavy rain and thunderstorms and we should get the worst of it tonight.

"The bulk of it is really tonight so it's something to keep in mind if you have activities planned. It's certainly going to be active and there will be thunderstorms. Remember, lightning is a hazard."

He's predicting about 30 to 60 millimetres of rain before tomorrow morning.

Cheng says this weather disturbance is moving through southern Ontario and it has nothing to do with Tropical Depression Laura.

"Laura is staying south at the moment and it's moving towards Virginia in the next 12 hours so it will not affect southern Ontario at all. What's coming through southern Ontario is a disturbance that's coming from the midwest."

Cheng is predicting sunshine for Sunday and Monday but he says we could see some more rain starting on Tuesday.

He says we can also expect slightly below average seasonal temperatures next week.

The seasonal average is a daytime high of 24 and an overnight low of 14.
