Myeloid Leukemia Common in Ontario's Industrial Cities

May 30, 2019

By: Marcie Culbert

A new peer-reviewed study out of McGill University found high levels of a deadly blood cancer in a handful of industrial cities across Ontario.

The list included St. Catharines, Hamilton, Sarnia, Thunder Bay and Sault Ste. Marie.

The mortality rate for acute myeloid leukemia is also higher in those areas.

Researchers examined 18,085 AML cases, reported in Canada between 1992 and 2010.
