Fitness Industry Falling Short on Workers' Health

June 2, 2019

By: Marie Cassidy

Almost half of people working in the fitness industry don't have paid sick days.

New research out of Brock University looked at the multi-billion-dollar industry and found it falls short when it comes to workers' health and wellness.

Of those surveyed, over half said they have no paid sick days, while about 40 per cent do.

The workers that do have paid sick days only get one or two a year.

The study says more than 75 per cent of the employees with paid sick days are part of a union.

The Ontario government recently changed the rules and got rid of the mandatory two paid sick days.

Instead, workers get up to three unpaid personal days for illness, injuries or emergencies.
