Thorold Approves Senior Centre Lease

President of Centre's Board is thrilled with city council's efforts to get this done, which also includes improvements to the centre

Residents of the Thorold Senior Centre are thrilled with a new lease agreement with the city.

President of the Centre's Board, Brenda Bator, tells us city council was instrumental over the last year in pulling this off, with many improvements to the centre.

"We're also not having to pay any rent, any lights.  We still do go after grants, that'll help us out down the line.  We do a lot of fundraising here.  It took so much off our plate."

She adds there'll be more activities for seniors, instead of too many seniors being socially isolated.  "On top of that, we had applied for another grant, for working directly with the city, on putting a brand new, huge deck out in the front of the building.  We'll have a portable bar out there, we have a pop-up market."

She adds the centre would've continued on without the agreement, but this definitely improves things.

She also says it previously relied largely on volunteers, but now its 7-person board has 3-full time people.
