Charity says events like this are needed to keep doors open
Hospice Niagara recently received a financial boost from its TASTE fundraiser.
The event was held on September 7th, and included performances by Canadian rockers 54-40 and The 99s.
It also gave attendees a chance to enjoy Niagara's best wine, cider and craft beer.
Alicia Merry, Director of Marketing, Communications and Fund Development says while the final numbers aren't tallied yet, it's estimated the event raised over $30,000 for the charity.
She says fundraisers like this are necessary to keep the doors open.
"We only receive partial funding from the provincial government, which doesn't cover all the costs associated with running Hospice. Things like that are some of the basics that we all pay to live in our own homes, like heat, hydro, water and maintenance. All of that is raised through fundraised dollars like our events such as TASTE."
Hospice Niagara provides end of life services, as well as support to people with a life-limiting illness and grief services to people who have lost a loved one.
Merry adds the charity has seen a significant rise in demand over the years.
"I think we are an aging population in Niagara, and of course we need to provide the right care for those individuals."
Hospice Niagara is currently working to build two new hospices and Fort Erie, which are expected to open by 2025.
