St. Catharines Disburbance Leads to Charges

Suspect disarmed after man hits her with broom

A 26-year old St. Catharines woman is facing a number of charges after an altercation.

Police say the suspect was arguing with another man and woman in the Haig Street and Ventura Drive area of St. Catharines last Wednesday afternoon.

The man began to walk away, which led to the suspect arming herself with two knives, and she began stabbing the man's car.

The woman involved in the argument began running down the street, which led to the suspect chasing the woman down the street, who escaped.

Police say the suspect then came across an adult walking with a 5-year old girl.  The suspect hit the child's backpack with the knife.

Then, a 32-year old man, watching this from his house, came out and hit the suspect with a broom, disarming her.

Police say no one was hurt.

Brookelynn A. MacNeill is charged with 5 counts of assault with a weapon, 2 counts of mischief under $5,000, possession of a weapon, and failing to comply with probation.

She had a bail hearing on Thursday.
