Seaway to Re-open

St. Lawrence Seaway says tentative deal reached to end strike, about 360 workers still have to ratify in coming days

Ships will start passing through the St. Lawrence Seaway tomorrow morning, after the two sides in a strike that began last weekend reached a tentative deal.

St. Lawrence Seaway Management tells us workers will return to work at 7am, and begin to move ships from Montreal through to Niagara and the Welland Canal.

The agreement, reached between Unifor and the Seaway, still has to be ratified in a vote by the 360 employees, and that'll happen in the coming days.

The major issue causing the strike was wages, but at this point there's no indication what was in the deal to end the strike.
