Niagara Falls council voting for the idea to discuss quarry plan by Walker Aggregates
Niagara Falls city council has voted unanimously for public discussions on a proposed quarry by Beechwood Road and Uppers Lane.
The city's Director of Planning Kira Dolch says the community focus group would include the general public, the city, as well as Walker Aggregates, for meetings to start sometime this summer
"There will be parameters on the number of meetings, we're not going to have an unlimited number of meetings, because we'll never have all the issues resolved, obviously... that's something we'll strive to, but I don't see us getting to that point," she says.
Opponents of the quarry say there's no need for it, adding it'll replace farmland.
David Rupay says there is no one who supports Walker's plan. He adds he wouldn't take part in the group if Walker was there. "There's nothing that Mr. Walker can say to me that would convince me that it's a good idea to replace agriculture land with an open pit mine."
City staff recommended the focus group consist of new and long-time local residents, and business owners.
