Ontario Announces $17-Billion Plan in Response to COVID-19

Ontario is taking steps to support the health, safety and jobs of those across the province.

A $17-billion plan was announced by Finance Minister Rod Phillips in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Niagara West MPP Sam Oosterhoff says every dollar is set aside to help save a life or save a job.

The plan includes a one-time payment of $200 for every child 12 and under and setting hydro rates at off-peak pricing 24-hours a day.

It offers supports, tax relief and payment deferrals for businesses.

It also provides emergency childcare options for people working on the front lines.

Oosterhoff say all Ontarians are grateful to those working in healthcare and in the supply chain, from grocery stores to pharmacies.

The plan will push the province’s projected deficit from $9-billion this year, to $20.5-billion next year.
