High amounts of air pollution expected today and possibly tomorrow
Wildfire smoke continues to cause issues here at home.
Environment Canada has once again issued a special air quality statement for Niagara, calling for high air pollution today and possibly tomorrow.
This is due to forest fires in northeastern Ontario and Quebec.
People with lung conditions or heart disease, as well as seniors, children, pregnant women and anyone who works outdoor are at a higher risk of experiencing health effects due to wildfire smoke.
Niagara is currently rated as moderate risk on the Ontario Air quality Health Index, but the region is expected to become high risk later today.
Officials say there are 68 active forest fires in northeast and northwest Ontario.
Authorities say if you plan to enjoy fireworks this weekend, you should check your local fire restrictions.
