The Niagara Sexual Assault Centre is raising money to provide necessary services to survivors of sexual violence.

The Niagara Sexual Assault Centre is asking for the community's help this holiday season.

The centre has launched the "Wipeout the Waitlist" campaign, in order to provide necessary services to more sexual assault victims.

We spoke with Tricia Cosgrove, HR & Data Manager for the Niagara Sexual Assault Centre, who says that there has been an increased demand for service since the pandemic started.

"After three months, we found that the calls to our crisis lines had more than doubled. We're used to 350 - 400 calls a year. We're now looking at 750 - 800 calls."

She also says the overall waitlist for the centre's counseling services have more than doubled since June.

Services provided at the Niagara Sexual Assault Centre include group and individual counseling for victims, as well as hospital response programs, public education in schools and information sessions.

Cosgrove says all donations raised will be used towards the centre's programs.
