Niagara Region Council Calls for National Child Care Strategy

Niagara Region Council is calling on the province and Ottawa to develop a National Child Care Strategy.

It would also like Ontario to release it's own plan on how to provide child care for families and to make it a priority as we recover from the pandemic.

Pelham Councillor Diana Huson brought the motion forward last night.

She says child care is an issue that effects our economy.

"It's an economic issue because it defines the economic landscape in which people can participate in the workforce."

She says if a parent has to stay home it will affect their household income which will result in less consumer spending.

A majority of council voted in favour of her motion in the end.
