Catharine O'Donnell eats chocolate with 4 other judges in Montreal for prejudging in May
Exciting news for a Niagara College pastry chef professor, who'll be prejudging for the World Chocolate Masters event in Montreal.
Catharine O'Donnell didn't know she was being considered, until a phone call offering her the chance to eat chocolate in May.
She says for the last 4-years she's been pushing the barriers. "I'm one of those women who raised her children from 'halfway through single', and owned a bakery in Niagara-on-the-Lake, then the College hired me over 10 years ago, and I've been trying to push women forward."
She'll join four men in judging, one from Canada, two from the US, and one from France.
O'Donnell watches the competition every year, but never thought she'd be a judge until a phone call.
She says her love of chocolate started at a young age. "I went to chocolate school in Belgium, and they have this giant vat of milk chocolate. All I could think about at the time was 'Can you imagine having a bath in that?' I have been the biggest milk chocolate fan... I like dark chocolate, but..."
The college says she has made her mark as a world-class pastry-chef in Niagara and beyond.
The World Masters Event happens in 2025.
