Niagara Falls MPP Wayne Gates says that the province isn't doing enough to ensure the safety of workers during the pandemic.
In response to the Ford government's announcement of an enforcement blitz to inspect workplaces and big-box stores, Gates said that while increased inspections are vital, they're only effective if employers who don't follow the rules face consequences.
"Workers that still have to go into the workplace during this pandemic have the right to know their workplace is COVID-safe. Increasing inspections is an important step, but this will only be effective if there are consequences for employers that put workers at risk."
He went on to say that some healthcare workers have been forced to quarantine without pay, while many other workers feel they have no choice but to go to work sick if they can't pay their bills.
