Niagara Health Participating in ICU Research Studies

Studies will examine health outcomes for COVID-19 patients and explore a national strategy to expand clinical research in Canada's community hospitals.

Niagara Health is teaming up with the PSI Foundation on a pair of research studies.

One of the projects will take a look at the health outcomes for patients with COVID-19 over the course of two years.

The other study, a three year project, will examine Canada's clinical research infrastructure, and look for ways to engage community hospitals in clinical research.

Both of the studies will be led by Physician Research Lead Dr. Jennifer Tsang.

"The research we conduct at Niagara Health has a profound impact on the health and well-being of our patients and communities," says Dr. Tsang. "While medical research is traditionally conducted in academic hospitals that are affiliated with universities, the majority of patients in Canada receive care in community hospitals. These two research studies will build on Niagara Health’s leadership to build research capacity in a community hospital setting and ultimately benefit patients in Niagara and across Canada."
