Niagara Falls YMCA to Close Permanently

Effective immediately, the Niagara Falls YMCA at the MacBain Community Centre is closing.

Since March, the facility has temporarily closed due to COVID918 related orders from the government.

Prior to the pandemic, the Niagara Falls location reportedly was experiencing significant membership losses, with a projected continued decline in membership.

Mayor Jim Diodati expressed his disappointment at the decision, but says there was no other choice.

"The City has had a long and positive partnership with the YMCA, and City staff and Council worked hard with YMCA leadership to find a mutually beneficial way for services to continue, but in the end, there was no financially viable way to do so."

The YMCA of Niagara will continue to operate programs and services including licensed child care, employment, immigration services, camp and community outreach services in other Niagara Falls locations.
