Niagara Falls Council Calls for Mental Health State of Emergency

They're calling on the Niagara Region to declare a state of emergency for mental health, homelessness and addiction.

Councillor Wayne Campbell brought the motion to Niagara Falls Council last night.

He says the Region is severely lacking the services needed to address these issues.

"When you get released from the hospital for mental health problems there is no follow up. There is no healthcare after the fact."

Campbell says there is only so much the City can do to address these issues because most of the funding comes from the province or the Region.

His motion passed unanimously and it will be forward to the provincial and federal governments as well as all municipalities in Niagara.
