Niagara Catholic Marks Higher than Average

Students scoring higher than average in reading, writing and math

Niagara Catholic students are receiving higher marks than the provincial average.

The Education, Quality and Accountability Office has released the board and provincial results of elementary and secondary assessments in reading, writing and math.

The board says students in grades 3,6 and 9 beat provincial averages in every subject.

In particular, grade 3 students did 13 percent better in writing and grade 6 and 9 students scored 1 to 2 percent higher in all categories.

Most of the results also exceed last year's.

Director of Education Camillo Cipriano says this shows Niagara Catholic schools are moving in the right direction.

"These results confirm that we are moving in the right direction with our literacy and numeracy strategies coming out of COVID," said Director Cipriano. "Niagara Catholic will continue to invest heavily in literacy and numeracy supports to ensure that our mathematics and literacy consultants have the tools necessary to support teachers and students. I am very proud of the hard work of our classroom teachers, principals and vice-principals, and our board-level consultants for working so hard to ensure student success. I am also extremely proud of our students for their commitment to learning and am grateful to our parents for continuing to support these initiatives in Niagara Catholic schools."

Yesterday, the DSBN released its results, showing grade 3 and 6 students also topped the province in each category.
