DSBN Schools to Close in Event of Strike

Board says schools will shut down if CUPE workers go on strike next week.

The District School Board of Niagara says it will close schools next week if CUPE workers go on strike.

The union, which represents 55,000 workers such as custodians, educational assistants and school librarians, has issued a five-day strike notice.

This means workers could hit the picket lines on Monday, unless the union and the province reach a deal before that point.

Meanwhile, there is no word yet on whether Niagara Catholic schools will remain open in the event of a strike.
